Fear, we all have an intimate relationship with it. Fear motivates or limits us. Fear allows us to expand our horizons or contract our possibilities. However, fear is a construct of the mind. There are numerous things people are scared of and here are a few:Zemmiphobia- Fear of the great mole rat.Xanthophobia- Fear of the color yellow or the word yellowOctophobia - Fear of the figure 8.Alektorophobia- Fear of chickensLinonophobia- Fear of stringWhile this list of fears may seem ludicrous, to someone the terror SEEMS very real. Here is another list of phobias to consider:Neophobia-Fear of anything newAtelophobia- Fear of imperfection.Atychiphobia- Fear of failureDecidophobia- Fear of making decisions.Gelotophobia- Fear of being laughed at or ridiculedDoes this list seem ludicrous, or do some, or all of these fears seem incredibly familiar to you? We are not born with fears; we acquire them over time through interactions with our environment. As we grow and develop into adulthood the frightening programs and conditioning we acquire remain prevalent in our memories. While the fears may have served a purpose in the past, the question is, do they still serve you today?Considering our individual fears, imagine how these programs are collectively affecting our society. Our individual lives are the microcosms that make up the societal macrocosm. The madness we see in the world today is a direct result of our fears. Would you like to create something different in society? Are you tired of seeing the upheaval and chaos that has become common place today? Become aware of the fears pervading your thoughts and actions. As we individually and collectively choose to face our fears we can alter our course. Or, we can remain in fear, perpetuating this list:Phronemophobia- Fear of thinkingSophophobia- Fear of learningProsophobia- Fear of progress.Tropophobia- Fear of moving or making changesWill you stay confined in the prison of fear or will you choose freedom? The choice is yours. The time to decide has come.
